Interdisciplinary Student Project TraumRaum

The initial point for the student project TraumRaum was the educational concept from the artists Fraenzi Neuhaus and Verena Lafargue for the basic primary school Sahligut. The concept was a approach to convey the young children a more sensible and tangible sense for space, construction, material and art. Therefore the students of the Sahligutschool received over the periode of one semester a weekly workshop, guided by different artists and professionals. At the end of the TraumRaum project the students presented their result at a public festival.

With this attempt Fraenzi Nauhaus and Verena Lafargue asked my new workplace, the Bern University of Applied Science, to support the TraumRaum project.

Together with Professor Christoph Sigrist, Research Assistant Marie-Laure Divoux, seven students from the Bachelor of Science in Wood Engineering and myself, we initiated an interdisciplinary student project to design and to implement a pavillon for the final festival. The only available material was PET, timber and textile. In the final week the pavillon had to be constructed together with the children of the Sahligutschool. Therefore the task was quite unusual for a student of Wood Engineering. During two workshops the bachelor students had a chance to give some constructive lectures to the children and to test
the children skills to understand and construct the design.

Before the Students came up with their final design we organised a project week with three Master Students of Architecture, who gave some good inputs. The interaction of Wood Engineers, Architects and the children from the Sahligutschool resulted in a interesting object, expressing the spirit of the project.

Picture showing a fassade of hongkong highrise buildings

This post i found somewhere on imgur. Its a gallery of Peter Wolf documenting the architecture and the life of megacitys. I like the effect how copying elements transform the building into a texture. Peter Wolf carve out this effect very well. Also check out the other fotos on his website photomichaelwolf.com.

DeuBau

After a long hibernation i am finaly back with some new posts. Starting with the nomination of the pavilion treehugger for the Deubau Award in 2014. Together with my former Professor Holger Hoffman (www.o-f-d.net), my fellow students Jan Weber, Eva Ziegler, Gabriel Wüstner, Jan Bunsemeyer and Frank Stolz from the university of applied science in Trier, we designed this pavilion  for the chamber of skilled crafts in Koblenz. Of course i should have already added this project too my selected works, but you knowmy as a lazy person.  U can get a good impression about the project on www.archdaily.com. Hopefully i will find some time to give you a proper documentation in the next weeks.

Keep you fingers crossed for treehugger
